Impressive mandarin

Image
Nowadays Cayen has surprised me with his newfound chinese vocab .. "阿婆不要转台" (he wants to watch his own program.. Namely Hi-5 and Baby Channel  "水撒在地上了” ..note that he used 撒instead of 倒 .. Chinese Teacher was reading to them some story and she paused to speak to english teacher Nana .. They chatted for a while. So Cayen exclaimed loudly,  ”陈老师不要再跟Nana 讲话了, 快点读书,你今天讲太多话了!" Teacher shared with us the story somewhat sheepishly.  ”大头大头下雨不愁人家有伞我有大头” he would recite this every time we have trouble pulling his shirt out as his head is in the way .. And we would tease him about his big head.  Cayen was trying to try get his Ah Pa to do some reading for the nth time and Ah Pa was trying to delay a little. Cayen was impatient and started to rattle while counting  "没有ice cream , 糖糖,Christmas tree, Gai Gai, juice, swimming, fountains ..." Yes, these are his favourite things and apparently Ah Pa used to  tell him that if he's not a good boy, he will lose all these

Christmas celebrations

Image
Times flies and before I know it, 7 years have passed and we now have a cheeky little boy to celebrate every anniversary with.  As if he knew that something was special , he was able to sit through the dinner as he savoured the bean soup with bread , his first ever Burrata cheese and delicious French fries while we polished off the 1.1kg wagyu F1 bone in ribeye. Sinful & Delicious.  Christmas Day was spent watching Annie, eating desserts (rainbow cake and chewy juniors) and the adults having some spicy roasted fish ...湘菜..our latest craze.. Boxing Day was spent at the cosy Seasons Bistro where we have our Stellez Vine yearly wine dinner.  Saturday morning , we went to an indoor playground with our neighbour/friends and it was good as  Saturday was the day that I went to my first Jay Chou concert , and it was already quite a while since I went to a music concert so it was quite an experience especially at the new stadium, with all the purple neon lights. It was a nice stadium I thin

Short trip to Hello Kitty land , Legoland & Big Little Club

Image
This year end, we decided to bring Cayen and my parents for a short trip to JB as we found a car charter that would take us (4 adults + 1 kid)  across in 1.5 hour at $80 one way.  Went to Hello kitty labd and Big Little Club that were all indoor amusement park in one building right besides Puteri Trader Hotel (5 min away from Legoland) and a fraction of Legoland hotel prices apparently.  Cayen totally enjoyed himself judging by how he kept on wanting to go on the Hello Kitty teapot and cups ride , make a cookie , and take the Thomas the Chu Chu train .. It was also quite funny how he chased after Badz Badz  Maru to try to touch him and danced to Barney he Dino's performance .. (For a long while, he thought he's going to watch some Bunny) However, as the place was very small, there was nothing to do by 6pm after the park closed but to eat. And so we did.  The next day, we had initially wanted to visit only the Legoland water park but tickets was something like 110 for that or 18

有奶就是娘

Image
Y esterday we had a family party .. As usual, Cayen had initially responded to newcomers with a "Mai" (no). When changing his diapers , I told him, if you want your "qoo" , then you better say "hello uncle , hello auntie" later on. We walked out and suddenly he was saying hello to all jovially, a complete changed person. 真现实!  For some reason, he suddenly asked this auntie "what's your name?". When she replied Cristina, he gleefully repeated after her.. to everyone's great surprise. And he went in to remember it for the rest of the meeting. There was this other auntie who asked him to call her but he said "I don't know". After that she told him that she's called Mummy and he should call her "Mummy" ... and he did ! All because she promised a whole box of qoo juices for him. This was the same auntie that he said Mai over 10 times when she first arrived. The things he would do for his qoo. 真是有奶就是娘 ...好势力! Then an

Funny conversations at 26 months !

Image
At 26 months, I must say that his mandarin is looking stronger than English , at least in sentence making.. But given that his vocab in English is sometimes better than the mandarin, what we get get is the true blue singlish.  Anyway, here's some recent funny conversations ..  ----- I was carrying him while trying to wear my shoes , so he was hanging a little precariously .. He suddenly exclaimed loudly "阿爸阿爸抱抱,阿妈不行了!" We were super amused.  ----- 阿爸:哇靠!(over soemthing)  Cayen: 哇靠! 哈哈哈.. We were stunned and he saw our reaction and he kept giggling and repeating it again and again.  ----- I dropped something in the lift .. Me: shit !  Cayen: shit !  I was shocked and tried to tell him not to say it. He giggled and repeated it again and again. Now, everytime something drops, he will either say ”oh oh " or "shit". I'm trying to teach him "oppsie" as an alternative ... But not quite working out as well .. Shit ! Oppsie...  ----- When he wants to e

The 1st performance

Image
For quite a few weeks , we were left wondering what would be his performance item .. And if he might be some kind of tree / prop. After all, he's not the obedient and the 2nd youngest in his class. Today, he surprised me first with his willingness to have make up put on without a struggle (think the fact that it was his teacher Nana helped). When he went on stage, he spotted ah pa and I was scared that meant the end of the performance but I was pleasantly surprised that he managed to shout Ah Pa and still carry on swaying to the beat. So proud of you my baby. Here's some video clips and some behind the scene photos. Before During YouTube Video YouTube Video After Make up removal Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

YouTube and laptop woes

Image
Over the weekend, I was quite cheesed as Cayen was allowed to watch Youtube on laptop again by Grandpa. This is when I was trying to get him to do something else healthier like drawing with crayons or something. And of course, he was uninterested by the colouring in the face of YouTube.  The part that vexed me the most was that grandpa appeared helpless, just because Cayen wanted it. Can't take it when an adult chooses to be mercy to the whims and fancy of a toddler. This is perfect recipe  to creating a spoilt kid. I asked them to stop but they wouldn't and I got even more mad. cayen started to whine as I tried to turn off the laptop. Grandpa was still giving the bobian , helpless state.  In a fit of anger, I whisked the laptop away from the two of them and Cayen started bawling.  The next day , when I was still at work , Cayen told grandpa " 我要看 laptop. 妈妈回来就没的看了” Clearly , he knows who calls the shots ..

爱恨分明

Image
Last week , ah pa went to pick him up from school. Before he left, he went around to each table and held up his fists to the boys , and said ”打架!打架!”  Ah Pa then learned from the teacher that the boys usually have more conflicts as compared to the girls.. Now it all makes sense some of the things Cayen have been telling us :  Q: who are your friends / who like you : who do you like the most ?  A: Emily, Rachel, Gwen, Kerrine, Nana (teacher) , 陈老师,madam tan. Jiajun Mai (don't want), Timothy Mai , Asher Mai, Yoko Mai (his ex principal)  But still , who taught him 打架?And honestly he's the second smallest guy in class (he's the youngest boy) and he dare go pick a fight ! Or perhaps he dared to challenge then openly when his ah pa is there and he has got backing ? Well, boys !

Motive

Image
Cayen was window shopping with his ah ma (grandma) while ah pa and I were running some errands. He saw some staircases and wanted to go up. So he turned to ah ma4 and told her earnestly ," ah pa is up there. Go up there to find ah pa" Ah Ma flatly refused as we refused to be tricked into doing so by a two year old. I wonder if he's making an excuse to go climb the stairs or he sincerely believes that ah pa is upstairs. Ah am obviously thinks it's the former. Anyway, recently , he has been on much better terms with ah gong as he has been bribing him with sweets and ice cream treats. So from ah gong "mai" (don't want), it has become ah gong 抱抱. That day he blurted out "阿公抱抱有目的! 吃糖糖”  We burst out laughing. Somehow he had picked up the terminology 目的 (motives) from somewhere, probably all of us. I doubt he knows the exact meaning but he obviously associates it with his behaviour of asking for ah gong to carry whenever he wants a snack.  Well, his purpo
