The scare

Image
I was having lunch with a friend when I suddenly saw a missed call and a Watsapp message "SOS". My heart dropped and when I called back Da, I was told that he had called an ambulance and he's on his way home. He didn't know much details as he had also just received the call for help from my mum. " Did he fall ? Was there blood ? Did he knock his head?" All these thoughts started to fly through the head. I feared the worst. I quickly grabbed my bag and rushed down to hospital. Then I decided to call my mum to find out what's the issue.  Apparently my dad was carrying Cayson while she's at the supermarket and as Cayson was squirming away, he twisted his body along in order not to drop him, and then he experienced a sharp pain in his stomach. He drove all of them home and the pain became worse and worse. It spread to his legs and he was in such great pain he asked my mum to cal for ambulance. For a person who greatly disliked doctors and hospitals, the

First Yamaha performance

Image
Today's the end of 2 semesters of Yamaha Apple Music lessons. It is marked by a concept by the children. I am currently waiting outside in anticipation as the kids are doing one final rehearsal before we are let in.  I wonder how his performance will be . After all, the last time there was a concert in school, he kind of froze for half the time though he knew the songs. Today, I can't wait to see how this would pan out.  ----- 10 minutes later ----- They put together various small items : - memory singing http://youtu.be/d-dSNZZ2lwY - a joint performance at their seats: see you tomorrow  https://youtu.be/z9C8AqLOabY - an individual performance at the piano in front - solo repertoire  https://youtu.be/GAkyVrsa1I8 - a group song with actions - whales sneezes (don't ask me why the grammar is wrong)  https://youtu.be/bdsFl-MZRyo - a song with some percussion (the shaker thing) - hot cross buns  https://youtu.be/MMqDeib-CsA Overall, I'm so happy he really enjoyed himself wit

Improving appetite

Image
I've been wanting to help Cayen put on more weight . So doing that involves exposing him to different foods in he hope that he likes something. Letting him have regular exercise every week as that helps , at least for that one day.  However, despite best efforts, some meals like breakfast remains challenging as he doesn't seem to be hungry or have the appetite.  Earlier on, I have bought Si Shen Fen (四神粉) to add to his soups in the hope that it improves his appetite. However, after one year of purchase, it's still sitting in the cupboard as my mum keeps saying that there's not enough chances to add this (cox he only eats dinner at home three days per week), or that it looks like the taste will be very strong (she hasn't even tried it yet) .  Key takeaway:  - there's no point complaining about problems if the solutions are available but one doesn't even want to hazard a try.  - though I'm not always able to make it home in time before he finishes his meal

High alert

Last year, when I heard loud helicopter sounds near my house, I started my own CSI investigation by texting my neighbours and I also called the police. I asked them to investigate what happened as the noise was ongoing for a while. Eventually, it turned out someone was sent to Tan Tock Seng hospital via helicopter but it was false alarm. Nonetheless, after the incident , I realise that most people would not act, they just heard the loud noise and went back to try sleep.  I think I wrote to Facebook page of someone (maybe our prime minister or someone else) and suggested that there should be an easier way that citizens can report suspicious activities - somewhere central and can check or coordinate with various departments or intel based on the info received. Fast forward one year, finally I see the setup of SGsecure app. It's most probably not due to my one Facebook message or call to the police but this is a move in the right direction given the increased terrorism threats. Even a

Cayson is 11 months old

His major milestone this month is the ability to take 4-5 steps unassisted. His favourite word now is "ball" and "throw" , followed by "cat" and "bird" and "mama". However, as I have been coming home late from work recently, he's now calling the father "mama" instead.  Upon hearing the word "Gai Gai" (some kind of baby talk for going put), he will point to his stroller and signal to Ah Gong to set out. When he sees him out on the baby carrier , he would be very excited and would even squeal in delight.  He is really quite athletic as he can throw balls into the toy basketball rim quite well. And he's not scared of falling hence he's learning to walk rather quickly.  He still likes music . He will jiggle and groove to the beat whenever there's something he likes. However, he's not a big fan of books (yet)..unlike his brother. So his only repertoire remains to be "brown bear" and "hun

Mystery of the Bananas

Image
Read this article online about the  banana slicer  and remembered about our own spectacle at home. Usually, after we buy our bananas, the entire bunch would be hung on the fridge door for easy access.  That day,I saw one banana on the floor. I asked my mum why it was like that. She said perhaps the cats did it.  I was puzzled but since no one saw, I just ignored it.  Then, a few hours later, I saw two bananas on the floor , where part of it was peeled already. I was rather annoyed by the waste. I then went to take a plate to see if I could salvage any part of it . Just I was brooding, suddenly I saw one more banana peel itself from the bunch realtime. I was shocked ! I quickly extended my hands to catch it before it hits the ground again.  Thankfully, my reflexes were trained from young (困难球) during basketball training and I managed to catch. Moral of story:  - don't blame everything on the cats  - big bananas are heavy and when very ripe, can peel itself with a bit of help from gr
