Funny honey

Image
Apart from being perceptive, Cayson’s also very funny sometimes. At a party that day, he took some chips and walked towards Cayen who’s kicking ball.  However, as he couldn’t resist eating the chip, it was finished midway before he could reach Cayen. So he shouted, “ Ah Yen, wait !” And he turned back to take more chips. But once again , as he started walking midway, he found that he has finished his chip again. So he screamed, “ Ah Yen what!” And he u-turned again. The third time round, he decided to wise up and broke into a bit of a run , probably thinking that he should be able to reach Cayen this time. But as he was still munching away, the chip was finished before he could reach.  Today is the day the school started renovation so kids have to move to a temporary new premise. The move must have been tiring or stressful for them . Because Cayen declares he’s sleepy by 8 pm and Cayson announced that 我累了 (note that he speaking mandarin is very rare) at 8.30pm, both way ahead of their

Cayson’s 29 months

I think he’s a very perceptive child. Here’s why: After Cayen was dropped off for his piano lesson today, Cayson turned and asked Ah Po, “ why Cayen can have iPhone, I’m good, why I cannot have iPhone?”  This was because he has been observing that sometimes Cayen gets to have the iPhone to play games. —-  Cayson and Cayen were fighting over the toy dinosaurs. Ah Pa asked Cayen to give in to Cayson, which he did grudgingly.  After Cayson went into his bedroom with Ah Pa, he complained, “Cayen is naughty”  Ah Pa: why is Cayen naughty? He shared the dinosaurs.  Cayson: But he didn’t share, you made him do it.  Whoa, I didn’t think he would know the difference.  —- Ah Gong stopped his car in the carpark and they alighted , but Ah Gong didn’t move.  Cayson would ask, “ Ah Gong, not going home?”  This is because he knows that Ah Gong is a scooting off to another place.  —- We were aware of a kid who bites in school so I asked him about it.  C: H eats people. Me: Did he eat you? C: No, he’s m

Cayen’s many firsts

Image
November was an exciting month as 17th Nov marked his first full blown farewell concert on a big stage, and 9th Nov marked his first primary school orientation. December is starting out equally exciting as he just took his first test ever tonight. I don’t know the results yet so he was so no-nonsense and calm during the test - am so proud of him. Using my untrained ears, I think he did fairly well as there’s no awkward pauses or wrong notes per what I have heard at home when he’s horsing around. Perhaps he works well under pressure. Anyway, fingers crossed, hope he passed his first exam. Anyway, no videos allowed so here’s just a cheeky picture from the day.

Cayen’s milestone - really short hair

Image
Cayen’s going to Primary 1 soon so it’s time to shed his mane. He’s rather unhappy about it initially, probably due to him being brainwashed all along that his long hair looks good.  So Ah Pa has a side bet with him after his haircut. If someone says your hair is not nice, you get iPhone straight away. If some says that it’s nice; then no iPhone for a week.  After he came back, Ah Gong and Ah Po sang their praises immediately. After he went to school, the vice principal , teachers all sang praises too.  So he’s going to be iPhone free for a while. Yeah, kill two birds with one stone.  Before  After

Monsters

Image
Since it’s Halloween today, it’s appropriate to have some stories on monsters.  Cayson asked very seriously, “Ah Ma, is there monsters ?” Me: No, no monsters. Not in our house. Who told you? C: Ah Pa  Me: No, no monsters. Did you see them? C: No, outside.  Me: Where? C: Hiding. Monster hiding.  Me: Oh no, there’s no monster.  C: See ... there ! (Points to behind me? See!)  I looked around and didn’t see anything.  C: There! I’m starting to get worried. C: See the dog!  Oh, I realise he’s pointing to the soft toy Eevee behind me. Phew! C: Ah Ma, I hear sound.  Me: huh? What sound?  C: sound. Scoring .  Me: No, I don’t hear anything.  C: yes, there’s sound. Ah Yen scoring ..,  Me: Oh , you mean snoring ? No,  I don’t think so (Cayen is in another room ; no way he can hear him from here amongst this white noise) Anyway, moral of the story. Don’t ever tell kids before that there’s monsters in the house or watch too much Youtube on monsters. Else, every day will be Halloween.

Cayen was 6 years old

In the last one year, he was noticeably more able to share with his younger brother. In fact, sometimes we marvelled in his ability to repeat so patiently his instructions to Cayson repeatedly.  Perhaps Cayson’s empathy and sharing nature has rubbed off him, or perhaps the big brother responsibility has sank in, but relatively speaking, he had matured as the older brother in the past year (though the small regular fights still happen from time to time). When I aligned from the car each morning, he would ask me to “have a nice day”!  In the past year, he had managed to go for quite a few lessons , mostly non academic like sports, mental arithmetic, executive functioning, music etc. The only academic one was initiated somewhat by himself when he realised that his Chinese is not good.  This year, he showed that he is able sit in a place and do work with focus if he wanted to. His recent teacher review at Little Executive was pretty good as the teacher spoke of his great improvement over t

Cayson is 27 months old

It’s been a hectic month of Sep as we have gone to Dubai in the earlier part. Hence, I realised I have skipped a month of update for Cayson’s milestones. Oops. And because we spent lots of time together, I was able to able to absorb more of his developments since the last month.  In Dubai, as he’s too short to enter most of the rides, the usual questions or action at each ride is to measure ride and to ask if he can go in. As such, after a few stations, he would ask , “ Baby can ?” We would reply, “Oh , cannot. Baby too small.” Then when we finally found something where he could take, we asked, “ Baby want to play?”  He replied, “No, Baby too small, Baby cannot sit. Baby angry!”  That’s when we knew that he’s getting frustrated at being rejected at so many rides. And he kind of understood what’s being angry.  Recently at home, his favourite new phrases are:  - “I don’t know” .. (And this is always in an exaggerated and cheeky tone)  - “no, no, no.. I don’t want xxx (he would sing this

Short National Day Trip

Image
Me and the kiddos redeemed our miles and tagged along Da on his work trip over the National Day weekend. This is the first time we travelled two on two by plane as my mum usually joins us. The flight there was fairly smooth as Cayson managed to sleep through most of it. Cayen napped sfor a short while but awakened as he couldn’t find a comfortable position. Thanks to all my preparations, he doodled on his journal , game book and eventually I even read all the safety instructions.  As we took a morning flight, day 1 was spent mainly eating very good local food, courtesy of our very kind neighbours / friends who had helped planned the trip’s itinerary and food menus.  Day 2 was zoo day at Chimelong. It was a good zoo , complete with dinosaurs. Cayen accused me of lying that dinos are extinct as he’s seeing them now. Haha. The zoo was big and complete with pandas , including the world’s only triplets, alongside an impressive extended family of white tigers and other Asia and African anima
