Sunday at Capitol Piazza & Ah Seah

Every Saturday and Sunday , we always have the perennial questions "What's for lunch ? What's for dinner?" Then as usual, everyone would want to suggest the same old places and I would veto and try to suggest somewhere new.

So this week, i suggested to go walk around the newly refurbished Capitol Theatre to explore the new eateries there at Capitol Piazza.

Given that our family is looking for Asian food, we soon wandered into Palette which appeared to be a new concept foodcourt.

We went into the fairly empty place (heard they only opened two weeks ago) and saw a handful of stalls. There's service staff just like a restaurant, and order taking was via iPads. So the concept was foodcourt setting, with service and high tech order taking. Hence, expect prices higher than food court but if you are there with kids, it's a more hassle free experience as you could order at your seat and food would be served to you. And child seats are available.

There were stores selling local delights , Indonesian food, Indian food, Balestier Ba Ku Teh , beef brisket noodles , chicken wings etc.

We tried a few of the Indonesian dishes like nasi Padang , tauhu goreng, satay etc and it was pretty good. Ba Ku Teh was so-so (meats were not the good parts) , beef brisket noodles was good. Fried rice that we ordered for CAyen was alright.

After the meal, Ah Po asked CAyen if he found the food yummy. He replied, "不好,肚子饿, 随便吃咯..”
We laughed out loud. Then we realised. While we were savouring all the different dishes, we only gave him mainly rice with the pig trotter gravy and some meat. He didn't have much of the fried rice as it came a bit later. So in a way, he didn't have much of a spread..

Thereafter, Cayen wanted yogurt to which I said , find the shop with your map (the store directory). He didn't quite use the map but he managed to spot the store by cruising along. When he first saw the shop, he screamed "yogurt" in excitement and rushed towards it. The two shop staff were super tickled to see such fanfare !

At night , we went to Ah Seah shop for some teochew porridge spread. We ordered 13 dishes for 5 adults and 1 kid and it costs about 100 which is the same price as the Palette meal. I thought it was ok price with the spread but my parents are like "this is so expensive , Teochew porridge like this is at best $70 !

Anyway , apart from the spread, another useful tip we picked up to keep kids entertained for 45 minutes is to ask them to pick out the numbers in the parking coupon. My game is to ask him to pick out all numbers with a 2 inside!
