Cayson is 18 months old

As I was trying to clear work, go for some courses to sharpen the saw, recovering from a cough and also to take the year end trip  this December , I had not updated this blog for one month ! That's really the longest hiatus I have had from writing in the last few years. Nonetheless, 18 months is a big milestone for Cayson as he would be going to school next Tuesday. Here's what he has been up to this month.

They say travelling widens the horizon. I believe so for I think his spoken repertoire has increased leaps and bounds in just one month. Or perhaps it's because there's a lot of  rattling and commentary from me as he sits in my carrier , so he has absorbed more vocabulary along the way.

Now his increased vocabulary includes 弟弟 (which he thinks is Cayen as Cayen likes to scream 弟弟 every day when he comes home),姨姨,阿zang,阿yen (Cayen), auntie (the cleaning auntie), fish , pig, bo (Hokkien for " don't have"/ "no more") , 屁屁 (diaper change time) , bubbles (he saw a lot in Disneyland Hk), book, mimi (for minion/ yummy), broco (for broccoli), 面,bread to list a few. The most remarkable is 谢谢 !

Also, his service standards have also improved. In the past, he would carry the potty to Cayen whenever he heard the word poop or pee in English / Chinese or Hokkien. Now he would also bring Cayen's shoes to him whenever he hears that we are going out. Additionally, he would also try to deliver to Ah Pa and the entire family's shoes too from the door to their feet. I must say his service is very good indeed.

Apart from learning new words, he has also increased in his whims and wishes. Now if we see a bus go by, he will jiggle his body a bit and look at us intently and make this sound until we start singing " the wheels of the bus " song repeatedly. He would also add in the swishing action of the wiper, the shushing of the mum whenever we sing those verses. As I got so tired of the song, I sang the new shark song . "Baby shark go doo doo doo doo, mummy shark go doo doo". Little we realise that it would be such a big hit and we had to sing it upon request a hundred times a day. And indeed of just baby shark and mummy shark, he also prompts for 姨姨,阿 Zang , 阿Yen, 阿爸 shark renditions too and we gotta keep switching. And when he makes the rolling action, he wants the "ten little bears roll over song". For the slight jumping move, he wants the "5 monkeys jumping on the bed". If we see a boat, he will pretend to swing his arms and row and we will need to sing " row row row the boat"..  It was all quite amusing initially until we reach 500 times.

On the dietary front, to try to avoid him becoming a picky eater like Cayen, we let him try everything he is prepared to try. So his latest vegetables reportoire includes long bean, 丝瓜, celery, Spring onion, onions and even cucumber. Hope he keeps up at it though like his big brother, he doesn't quite fancy stuff with squashy texture . He also doesn't like sweet stuff that much, not even ice cream. Guess that's actually quite good.

From a physical perspective, he's a confident walker who can now climb into the pram or onto the toddler chair without support (though it freaks me out as it's tall with no barrier). He can also skate scoot a little after watching his brother. When he falls, he hardly cries unless it's real painful. Think this one is going to be some commando or warrior.

From literary perspective, his fondness for books remains though his clear preferences have emerged too. For this month, his favourite is 碰碰脑门、 Beep Beep Toot Toot and Yawn.

He's a very sweet chap who still likes to hold and stroke my hand when he drinks milk. Will treasure this growing up stage while it lasts.
