Conversations with Cayson

Cayson’s verbal skills have improved a lot over the last few weeks.. here’s some conversations we’ve had recently ..

Spent the day with Cayson at the National Gallery a few weeks ago .. was surprised at how advanced his conversational skills are now. He was building some blocks and saying this is an attic. I asked him who taught him attic , he said Peppa Pig.

Then we were having lunch, as we were eating , I was thinking about something. He suddenly laughed and said, “Ah Ma eating and Ah Ma freeze” which was quite an accurate observation.

Then I asked him some questions:
Me: do you like what you played just now?
C: yes
Me: this kind of playing is good. Playing Youtube, iPhone and TV is bad.
C: Playing with Ah Yen (Cayen)?
Me: good
C: Playing basketball?
Me: Good
C: Shichida?
Me: Good

And it went on. He was able to relate and point out many other things that I would define as good. I think his 举一反三 is pretty good for a three year old.

I was trying to teach him more Chinese and trying to get a foot massage done. Hence, I bought him a dinosaur maze book in Chinese. First thing I thought him was 起点 and 终点, I explained that he should recognise 起 as the one who’s taking a boat as it’s 船字边. Unfortunately, his mandarin is not as good as his pattern recognition

Me: which is start and which is end ?
C: 起点 (Pointing to the word)
Me: the end?
C: 八点..
Me: no ... wrong ... 终点..

After playing two more pages .. I asked him again ..

Me: which is start and which is end ?
C: 起点
Me: the end?
C: I don’t know. Can you give me a clue?
Me: no ... you try
C: Can you please give me a clue?
Me: (since he’s so polite and earnest) ok ok, it’s 终点.

After playing two more pages .. I asked him again ..

Me: which is start and which is end ?
C: 起点
Me: the end?
C: 中点..
then he points to the Start and says, “big one” ..

Qi Da laughing in the background ... think Cayson mistook t 终 for 中.. so to him, it’s like 大,中,小 点 .
