TCM for kids

Cayen has had a persistent cough and phlegm for very long. Despite taking around 2-3 bottles of the western medicine, it didn't get better. And at night  during that period, he kept asking for extra serving of milk , which only made the phlegm worse, as he sometimes may puke the next morning.

So last month, we stopped all extra milk servings and Western medicine and switched to simply drinking pear and Chuan Bei soup every other day. The cough actually subsided to a big extent and he was no longer coughing so often. But the phelgm remains as we could hear from the occasional cough.

As such, we decided to bring him to this Chinese Tuina (massage) for kids that was supposed to be very effective.

First, we took a number to see a Chinese physician and she advised against eating "cooling foods" like oranges, watermelon and mango. No bird nest too. Then massage was prescribed for three days.

Unfortunately, what we didn't expect was that Cayen was completely adverse to a stranger's touch despite all of us being there with him. No amount of toys, sweets or even YouTube could placate him - he proceeded to scream the house down while all the other ten kids in the room of various ages were calm and enjoying the massage and continued to do so despite his screams. At one juncture, he even attempted to kick and bite the masseur which we managed to avoid by swerving away.

The 20 minutes massage felt like eternity and two masseurs had to join force to massage him to finish the course. After the eternity, we took our course of medicine ($38 including the massage) and went home.

While the medicine had their strong TCM taste, we managed to convince him to take it via syringe (he thinks it's quite fun using the syringe usually) . The next few feeds were not so smooth as he already knew what to expect and he said it tasted awful.

Thankfully for lemonade and sweets, we managed to get him to continue the course since another massage is out of the window.

Let's see if he manages to expel that phlegm before Chinese New Year.
