Cayen's 3!

How time flies! Cayen is now 3 years old and to celebrate this milestone, we decided to have a short staycation somewhere. At first, we wanted to go to Universal Studios but was fearful that the haze would derail our plans so we switched gears last minute to go to somewhere else with a big indoor facility. That's where I found D'Resort at downtown East which comes with a family room setting. And that came with complimentary access to Wild wild wet for two days and Compilentary Xplorerkid visit. If you are NTUC card member, you also get linkpoints by booking online. But be mindful that any bookings for fri and sat has to be for a minimum of two nights. I got a bit stuck as I booked Thursday first (as family room was only available then) and tried to book Friday (which is completely not possible be it online or if you call them).

Cayen was very pleased with the underwater world theme and the bunker bed and was constantly climbing the stairs. He was also infatuated with the two Dolphins that came in the magical box in the room (that requires answering some questions to unlock).

Then we went to the Xplorerkid indoor playground to check it out and it was indeed very big. However, as it has some areas catering to rock climbing and some crossing which is more for bigger kids, the effective area for 3 year old isn't that much bigger than other indoor playgrounds I have been to. He was quite taken with the chalk and blackboard which he could draw freely too. Sometimes it's the simple things in life that amuses.

Day 2 - we had to migrate to another room as I couldn't secure the very hot family room on a Friday night so we just made do to another family room with a twin bed instead.  Thankfully it came with the same nice fittings and a giant beanbag. While it didn't come with the free wild wild wet access but it was a good deal as it was cheaper by $100. As we all woke up only at 9.30am, we went to the arcade to play some kiddy games like throwing balls at the screen etc.

Cayen was very fascinated by the tickets we collected. And that concept of winning tickets came in really helpful when I wanted to challenge him to try new things in the pool later on at Wild Wild Wet, like running through a small waterfall of water which he usually refuses. It was my first time at Wild Wild Wet. While it wasn't as big as the one at Legoland , but for a three year old, it was sufficient to spend one over hour there to drift around in a float and to play in the wave pool. At night, Cayen wanted pizza and we ended up packing food back to our room as they only had takeaway pizza. We bought some food from the Malay stall but unfortunately the ingredients weren't that fresh so it was a bit of a letdown for the adults. But well, at least we fully maximise our time in the room.

Day 3 - we went to the Pasir Ris beach to acquaint Cayen with the real sand,  sea and waves finally. I always think we don't bring him to outdoors enough - he's forever running In malls which is not too good. Hopefully we can do a lot more outdoors once he changes school and the haze goes away.

Day 4 - his party at Polliwogs! Wanted to organise a small party for him while he still enjoys the indoor playground at this phase in his life. I realise how fast he grows and how fast his preference changes so I guess something else will catch his fancy next year. Let's see what.

After what would have been a happy ending to the many days of celebration, the story ended with him drawing on my new sofa with pen. Of course I was fuming mad but somehow I didn't have the energy to scold him.so I just kept telling him that 我很生气,为什么你要乱画 etc.

I tried all googled ways of removing pen stain to no avail. Nail polish remover, vinegar with detergent and water, perfume... Sigh.

Later on, for some reason, Cayen suddenly exclaiming very loudly. 阿爸, 我很生气,为什么你要乱画?阿妈,我帮你擦。(and he kept trying to help me wipe) He sounded so righteous, like Ah Pa really was the naughty one. Oh mine, is this what being 3 years old is about ? 撒谎不眨眼?

And he repeated his accusatory tone a few times using my tone , 我很生气.. 为什么你乱画.. Actually it's all quite hilarious as he looked so serious but we all needed to stifle our smiles and continued to look stern.

Finally , before he slept, he asked Ah pa to record his apology to me. Well, I guess somehow he has really grown up. Making mistakes and owning up . I didn't expect that of a three year old but I can't wait to see what more surprises lie ahead.
