Turning 18 months ..

Image
Cayen is finally 18 months old!  His vocabulary is increasing very fast these few days and he was able to say Orange, Purple, Blue and Black finally! Also, I also can't help but feel like Macdonalds has the best ads. The ad contents (from potatos to K pop dancers) and/or the jingle is often so catchy that he can recognise it's a Macdonald ad in seconds. And M is the first alphabet he picked  up .. because M is for Mai...  And he also loves all ads that feature babies The recent Drypers ad will always stop him in his track and start him grooving to the beat. It's hilarious! I also think he loves dancing ... he will always groove when the music is good!  Anyway, when he went to the PD for his immunization jab yesterday, he didn't cry as usual - he's either quite thick skinned or too busy snatching the milk biscuits or both. In any case, he stands at 78.5-79cm and 10.7kg. That's 50th percentile for weight but only 10th+ percentile for height! Time to ...

Hokkien baby

Cayen is finally knowing his ABC .. He can say A for Apple, B for Boy, C for Cat, D for Dog and after much prompting E for Egg. This took many days of training .. But I notice his Hokkien flair is much better . That day when I answered " ah ber " (not yet) to my mum , he repeated "ah ber" immediately. And today , when I said "Mai Bei" (don't climb) , he said "bei" immediately. And when my mum says "ai jiak" (want to eat?) , he will repeat exactly as well. Lastly, nowadays he will say "Mai mai" (no no) every time he want to say no ... This is one of the upsides of living with grandparents - flair in dialect. The very hyper baby ...

Multi-tasking & Multiparenting

Image
It has been a most busy two weeks. Had a fever last Fri and Sat after the week of late nights leading up to the workshop this Mon and Tue. Submission timelines for this other presentation deck. Meeting & dinner with Global folks on Wednesday. Project legwork on Thursday .. so many things and so little time ... In the meanwhile, multiparenting conflicts ensued as the Ah Pa insisted that discipline must be instilled in the increasingly naughty boy. No bedtime stories at 11pm... No afternoon naps till after 7pm... Anyway, managed to go home the earliest today at 9pm .. in time to catch up on 2 weeks of missed bedtime stories. And also to teach 2 new words to Cayen successfully ... Boy & Girl! Up to No Good ...

So Nice!

First sentence

Wish I were here ..  "Ah Pa, 抱抱, up, bye bye " after he had enough of the games at United Square baby gym ..  That night , he surprised us with an accurate pronunciation of Out, close pronunciation of Apple and somewhat abstract Please. The things he would do for food/drinks .. In this case, motivation is Apple juice .

His increased vocabulary

We started reading to Cayen since he was 6 months old and given the number of times we read his story books , I would have thought he would be a very earlier speaker .. or at least call Mama before 1 year old. Unfortunately, that didn't happen but the saving grace is that his comprehension seems quite strong. While he cannot pronounce many words at an early age, his priorities were very clear. "Um" is the first word and he would say it when he wanted to eat. And he was always very fast to point to the bananas, the books and anything that he wanted. And his memory seemed rather good too as he could remember the most random things I taught him, such as the Mastercard logo, Handicapped sign, the most recently the No Smoking sign. Well, the breakthrough in his speech really happened these few days. From only being able to say Mama, Ah Pa, Yi Yi, Egg, Up and Bird last week, he suddenly could say More, Duck, Wooo!, Cat, Bye, Woah Woah yesterday. Hope this is the start of e...
