Lessons and parties

Image
Recently ,  we have signed him up for his first enrichment lesson at Little Executive, a fun way to build up his executive processing skills. We have been to four lessons so far. Up till the second session , he was a little shy to join. But by the third  session, he was up and ready to go though feedback thus far is that while he was engaged in the first one hour , he couldn't quite concentrate thereafter even with movement breaks.  What I like about the lessons so far is that they teach concepts like goal setting to the kids. So for Cayen, his first goal was to "stop running out" of the class and he remembered it. So in the following session, he didn't run out of the  class at all. However, in week 2, he had to set new goals to stop drawing on the table and to stop climbing on the tables after he is done with his assignment. Let's hope we can increase his stamina over time.  On one of these Saturdays, Godma brought him to a party which he enjoyed thorough...

The three musketeers

Image
Last week , I was pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation to Cayen's  ex classmate (Jiajun's) party. Hence, we readily agreed. However, deep inside, I was also worried if he has gotten over his Mindchamps days .. If you recall, the last outing to Mindchamps to visit his classmates a few months ago didn't go very well, he was not that thrilled and even hid away (acting that he didn't belong) even though his classmates were so happy to see him.  However, these worries were unfounded after the kids (namely he, Asher and Jiajun) had about 15 minutes to warm up. They started running and screaming around the chalet .. Just like the good old days at Mindchamps. While I was happy to see him happy .. It was quite an overwhelming din for a Sunday evening with five boys running around in circles and fighting with their swords .. Now I know why they are the 3 musketeers ...

Squashing fruits

Image
To keep Cayen occupied during mealtimes, typically I will bring a bag of Lego and some books to entertain him before the food arrives or after the food is done.  This meal, he started with a bowl of mushroom soup and then some onion soup. Because the main course wouldn't come, we gave him some small pieces of fruits first which comprised of watermelon, dragonfruit and grapes. After gobbling up a few pieces of the sweet watermelon, he started to squash all the fruits. It all looked very gross . And finally after he's done, he picked up the plate and slurped the juice down his throat. So he was trying to "juice" all the fruits so he could drink it!  At this moment, I wondered if I should have stopped him when he's trying to squash all the fruits. After all, we all know it's bad table manners and we shouldn't play with food. But on the other hand, if I did, I would have inhibited his creative juices somewhat.  Well, think I will probably stop him next time si...

Cayen's 3!

Image
How time flies! Cayen is now 3 years old and to celebrate this milestone, we decided to have a short staycation somewhere. At first, we wanted to go to Universal Studios but was fearful that the haze would derail our plans so we switched gears last minute to go to somewhere else with a big indoor facility. That's where I found D'Resort at downtown East which comes with a family room setting. And that came with complimentary access to Wild wild wet for two days and Compilentary Xplorerkid visit. If you are NTUC card member, you also get linkpoints by booking online. But be mindful that any  bookings for fri and sat has to be for a minimum of two nights. I got a bit stuck as I booked Thursday first (as family room was only available then) and tried to book Friday (which is completely not possible be it online or if you call them).  Cayen was very pleased with the underwater world theme and the bunker bed and was constantly climbing the stairs. He was also infatuated wi...

有奶就是娘

Image
Y esterday we had a family party .. As usual, Cayen had initially responded to newcomers with a "Mai" (no). When changing his diapers , I told him, if you want your "qoo" , then you better say "hello uncle , hello auntie" later on. We walked out and suddenly he was saying hello to all jovially, a complete changed person. 真现实!  For some reason, he suddenly asked this auntie "what's your name?". When she replied Cristina, he gleefully repeated after her.. to everyone's great surprise. And he went in to remember it for the rest of the meeting. There was this other auntie who asked him to call her but he said "I don't know". After that she told him that she's called Mummy and he should call her "Mummy" ... and he did ! All because she promised a whole box of qoo juices for him. This was the same auntie that he said Mai over 10 times when she first arrived. The things he would do for his qoo. 真是有奶就是娘 ...好势力! Then an...

World Cup 2014 - Niners' gathering

Image
It has been a while since we last gathered , so Huiyi and Max played the lovely hosts and organised a soccer-theme party to reminisce the good old days. The last one we had of this theme was about 12 years ago I think. It was quite a sight as there were more than 20 adults and a dozen of kids (if we include the ones in the tummies). As you look at the spectacle, it's hard to imagine that Singapore has a birth rate issue. Can't wait for the gathering next year when the newborns join us !
