What happens If your kid insists on wearing your not so clean slippers? You distract him with a game of design with new bedroom slippers..  Left: he said it was a TV on wheels ...  Right: it started out as a cockroach and then it's not clear anymore.  He wanted to draw ah Pa's name too .. And added some wedges inside ...

Homework

Image
I received the second assignment of the year .. Building something with boxes. Given that I'm lousy with arts and craft, I was happy that the frequency of such homework has not been high. So last week, I asked Cayen what he wants to make and he said the grey Patrol dog and so I decided to see if that's doable with the styrofoam box that I was about to throw away. But I don't have any paints  except watercolour and the effect was not good. And he didn't have much patience to colour the whole styrofoam after a while too. So I decided to abandon mission early as we had only started on the body.  I procrastinated the assignment as long as I could and finally it was due. And I wasn't Keen to buy/waste brand new materials for this so I tried to gather whatever old boxes we can recycle. Finally, we decided to build his house. And I asked him to help stick the building name, his name etc with alphabet stickers which he was very happy to do.  Finally, I asked hi...

Week of theatre

Image
Last Saturday , we went to the long awaited Peppa Pig show at the Resorts World Theatre at Sentosa where hundreds of kids and adults gathered in great excitement. They put up a song and dance of all the regular songs in the Peppa Pig cartoons so Cayen could identify with it. However, given the price of the tickets, I was quite surprised that the Peppa Pig characters didn't come out in Life size mascots . Instead , toy size versions were held and manoveured by human actors. The plot and the props were usual for a kids production but nothing very creative or special. To be honest, I was bored stiff and thankfully Ah Pa didn't join and was waiting outside.  Yesterday, we went for Gingerbread Man at the Raffles Hotel theatre that was a lot smaller and cosier. In this theatre, they used mainly human actors to play out the characters in the story including Gingerbread man , and in a few settings ,  the toy size gingerbread man came out appropriately to depict a smaller size ma...

Punishment in school

Image
Cayen has been very naughty in school of late. Yesterday, when the class went to the toilet, he sneakily stayed behind when they all returned to the classroom. When they found him, he was playing with water.  Today, the issue was bigger. There was some paints and stuff in the classroom. So he hid in one corner and squeezed all the tubes of paints onto  the floor and all over himself. When the teachers found him, they also found a big mess of blue all over. Think they had to scrub a lot to get all the stains off. Cayen's uniform was completely soiled too.  I think he was asked to stand in a naughty corner for doing all these. Apparently , his chinese teacher was so crossed with his bad behaviour , she told him she will ignore him. Upon hearing, he burst into tears, crying so uncontrollably that the principal had asked the teacher why she let him cry till it's so bad. The teacher said that he needed to know that he has done wrong, I tend to agree. Cayen te...

A delightful day of Dora !

Image
I didn't know who is Dora till Cayen repeatedly shrieked every time the advertisement comes up. So we bought tickets and waited one long month for Dora to come .. The songs were quite nice and Cayen was kept enthralled the whole while though I thought the whole thing was a bit short as the performance went on for 20 min, stopped for 15 min and resumed for another 20min. Nonetheless, exposing kids to such performances is far better than TV and iPad so I would certainly continue to bring him to more of such performances. Met up with Becky, Sarah and Kenneth who were there for the show too ! Had a great lunch with 干爹干妈 for lunch at Palio that had very attentive service and quite delicious food. Very kids friendly .. The waiter rushed over with serviettes when water was spilled for instance. I would go there again. http://www.rwsentosa.com/language/en-US/Homepage/Restaurants/Pal...
