Taipei - Day 2

Started the day with a sumptuous breakfast in the hotel with Taiwanese fare, from porridge to bread and noodles, there's something for everyone.

We went to 天母,to look for da's mother's mother (ah Ma). And then we went to 阳明山 to check out the Sakura there as it was a bit warmer last week so quite a few trees bloomed. The ride there was quite nerve wrecking as we turned up the wrong hill / mountain where it was super steep and was a one way road, before finding the right way up.

It was rather nice weather initially as the weather is quite misty on the mountain and it was very cooling. Unfortunately it started to drizzle so we had to finish our walk in a hurry, Thereafter, we went to eat some 野菜 nearby to eat the 麻油鸡, 土鸡,五更肠旺,fried mushroom ... It was quite an interesting experience as it's my first time doing that in Taiwan.

Thereafter , we made our way to fisherman's wharf. Once again, we couldn't find the way there and as we tried to go into this road per the directions, we crossed a hump and then, there was the sea just a few metres away, with no barrier. We almost drove into the sea ! What a scare.

We managed to eventually find the right way after that and reached the wharf which was fairly deserted due to the cold weather. Many shops were closed so we admired the view a little before making our way to 淡水老街.

Over there, Da shot the balloons with such accuracy and we won an Angry Bird hammer for Cayen! He was mightily pleased. My father had the very tall ice cream cone and was so full he couldn't eat much other things later on.

Then we went to Shilin night market where I tried the teppanyaki. It was apparently the number 2 stall for teppanyaki there but I thought it was just so-so. Anyway, we sat and watched how they overcharged a Chinese tourist who just ordered a few ala carte items. Separately , my mum went to buy fruits and I believed she was slightly overcharged as well. All in, I think Taiwanese are warm people and businessman are certainly quite dishonest.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Shilin night market had a baby changing station but given that there's no baby seats in general , it's not that baby friendly unless your baby can sit in a pram or on a normal adult seat.
